This Country is Yours

We are very pleased to invite you to the opening of a multimedia exhibition by photographer Surendra Lawoti titled THIS COUNTRY IS YOURS.

5:30 PM | THURSDAY, 15 MAY 2014
NEPAL ART COUNCIL, BABAR MAHAL

THIS COUNTRY IS YOURS takes Kathmandu as the geographic setting during the historic process of writing Nepal’s new constitution. A second Constituent Assembly has been elected to write the constitution by 2017. During this constitution writing process, the exhibition focuses on activists of six social and political movements that inlcude women, indigenous nationalities, Dalits, Madhesis, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Intersex community, and religious minorities.

The exhibition aims to provide a voice amid the tremendous representational deficit faced by these groups in Nepal’s legislature, polity, judiciary, bureaucracy, mainstream political party leadership, security sectors, intelligentsia, and media. By highlighting the activists of the six groups, the exhibition invites a discourse, and encourages equitable representation in Nepal’s constitutional and democratization process.

The exhibition is on view everyday from 11am – 7pm until 1 June 2014.

The exhibition features a variety of programming;
